Aspects and problems.
The Italian library heritage conceals unknown artistic treasures: the volume illustrates for the first time and in complete form the books of illuminated manuscripts of the Biblioteca Comunale of Trento, reconstructing the origin, the legacies, and the illuminators who illustrated the medieval, late medieval and 15th-century manuscripts (codexes). The research is based on a model of a catalographical card for illuminated manuscripts inaugurated by the University of Florence. Each element that is important to the study of the illuminated decoration is examined thoroughly, from the study of the text to the composition of the codex, to the relationship between image and text, and to the iconography. The cards and essays are flanked by an abundant supplement, illustrated in black and white and in colour.
