Portofino and the San Fruttuoso Abbey | WEEKEND in ITALY

  • Your day tour departs from the tourist pier in Genoa
  • Guided tour of Santa Margherita Ligure
  • Boat to Portofino and San Fruttuoso Abbey
  • Lunch in a fish restaurant by the sea
  • Guided tour of Rapallo and coffee break by the sea.
  • Back to the tourist pier in Genoa

Your tour will begin with a visit of the lovely fishing town of Santa Margherita Ligure, set on the Gulf of Tigullio between Rapallo and Portofino. Fashionable but much quieter than Portofino, life in Santa Margherita Ligure centers around the lovely harbor with its palm trees, where boating and simple sunning are the orders of the day. The town has a 16th century castle and the 17th century Basilica di Santa Margherita.

You'll then take a boat to Portofino, one of the most popular resort towns on the Italian Riviera. Boutiques, art galleries, cafes, and restaurants line the tiny streets. The Church of St. Martin (Divo Martino) and the Castello Brown hilltop fortress are some of the main sights – but its greatest asset is the beautiful bay it graces.

You'll then proceed to the beautiful bay of San Fruttuoso Capodimonte which houses a magical monastery dating from the year one thousand. Nestled among the jagged rocks, San Fruttuoso seems like a pearl surrounded by a small beach, a church, the Tower of Doria and a few fishermen's cottages that are reflected in the emerald blue sea, on a background of dark green pines.

A delicious lunch in a fish restaurant by the sea will provide a well-deserved break.

In the afternoon, you'll tour the charming seaside town of Rapallo, another pearl of the Ligurian coast. With its picturesque castle in the sea, a seaside promenade, and pedestrian town center, Rapallo is sure to charm you!
